Restarting business with digital signage

Philips Professional Display Solutions has announced the launch of PeopleCount, a new Android-powered queue management signage and camera solution that it says will help bars and restaurants reopen safely after the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) shutdown.

First unveiled in April, PeopleCount is being put to use by companies around the world to help them control the flow of customers amid new restrictions forced by the Covid-19 pandemic.

One such business is Apteekkari, a bar and restaurant in Kuopio, Finland, which was the first company to roll out the new solution.

In partnership with local AV integration firm Avek Esitysratkaisut Oy, two 32” Android-powered and wi-fi connected D-Line displays, together with a Bosch Flexidome IP Micro 3000i IH intelligent camera and the PeopleCount app, were installed.

D-Line displays were strategically positioned in portrait mode at the entrance of ‘Apteekkari Sky’ rooftop terrace and inside the indoor bar area.  Connected to the Bosch cameras, the number of people entering and exiting the area is calculated and displayed in real-time, with a traffic light system displayed to indicate when more people can enter as and when capacity is reached and reduced.

The safety of our customers and staff is our number one priority

The displays are also used to communicate marketing messages and promotions to customers.

Arto Hujanen, manager at the restaurant, says: “The safety of our customers and staff is our number one priority and, with PeopleCount, we now have a solution that brings a new level of safety, as well as trust, as we continue to move forward in a post Covid-19 world.

"We’re delighted with the response from our staff and the reaction from our customers has been extremely positive. The solution has already proved to be a very worthwhile investment, minimalising any potential disruptions to their experience, and allowing people to stay informed while enjoying themselves.”
