The region’s first Sign and Print Academy has been created to help fill an industry skills gap
The Academy will train and develop students’ skills in ‘all aspects’ of the sign and print industry, preparing those involved for a successful career in their chosen sector with a range of courses and advice.
Chris Beech, director of creative and digital industries at the college, says: "The Sign and Print Academy in partnership with Hardy Signs will ensure learners are skilled and experienced in the end-to-end process, from design to final output for the consumer.
By providing sign making skills and training, it is a long-term investment and an important landmark in the sign making industry in our region”
"The multi-purpose facility is a cross curricular response to the skills demands of local industry."
Hardy Signs has a track record in assisting young people in the industry, having taken on a number of apprentices, and managing director Nik Hardy says the firm is ‘delighted to be working with BSDC and to share our expertise to develop the next generation of sign makers’.
Andrew Street, chairman of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and managing director of John Lewis, adds: "By providing sign making skills and training, it is a long-term investment and an important landmark in the sign making industry in our region."
