Glancing at the BBC News website in recent weeks, it seems they have taken a leaf out of our book and opted to cover more stories that give people hope, rather than an ongoing sense of impending doom.
Today, I caught sight of a story that unemployment in the UK has fallen again. The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics for the three months to December 2014 show that the unemployment rate now stands at 5.7 percent of the adult working population, while the number of people out of work in the UK fell by 97,000 to 1.86m in the period.

Maybe I’m being a little unfair on outlets like the BBC for not covering much positive news—after all, if there is nothing positive to report, then you simply can’t write stories on it! But, as more upbeat news appears in the wake of the recession, it is likely that we are going to see much more financially positive stories appear in the national media.
That said, we have had no problem here at SignLink in reporting on positive news from the industry, with both the magazine and website full of upbeat stories even during the darkest financial times. And this news about yet another drop in unemployment is great news for our industry, as companies continue to recover from the dark days of the recession and take on new staff to support ongoing growth.
