Epson aids textile expansion

The topic of textiles in both the sign and print industry is a hot one, because it is a great way for companies to diversify into other markets. Not only can textiles relate to t-shirts or clothing, but also home décor such as curtains, pillows and other homeware.

After a British textile company’s turnover topped £1m two years ago, Threadster is now looking to further expand with an investment in Epson technology.

The firm chose to install a SC-F2000 DTG printer, and two Sure Color SC-F9200 dye-sublimation presses, which have already increased production by 30 percent.

Andy Evans, founder and managing director of Threadster, comments: “Our success with international sales has come mostly from offering part-subsidised delivery options to customers with incredibly quick transit times in order to compete with local competition. For example, we currently ship to the US overnight with a delivery before 10:30am the very next day.

“We have huge plans to grow this even further as we begin to launch localised websites, local currency billing, and some overseas fulfilment.”

Threadster works with end users, and other businesses including seamstresses, brands, and retailers. Not only has the company progressed enough to invest in new equipment, but over the last five years has had to move to new locations to incorporate the growth. The firm also chose to invest in the two Sure Color printers because of the rise in interest in polyester materials.

The environment was also a key factor in the decision, as the company would like to make an impact, but not on the environment. One way in which Epson will maintain this green ideology is through its inks. Evans says: “We like knowing that our ink comes from a reputable source and is completely safe for adults, children, babies, and dogs alike.

“Epson has always been a brand we can trust and our decision to take these three printers was straight forward. We were happy with the quality of the print tests. The increased print speed of the SC-F9200s had great appeal, helping us to increase our capacity but also enabling us to keep and exceed our turnaround deadlines.”

Evans continues: “As you can imagine when you’re printing fabric to order between 2pm and 4pm, we have a lot to get through as early as possible in the morning to ensure there’s enough time for our machinists to make everything. The faster printing has made a noticeable difference to our morning routine.”
