Crossrail Press On thanks to large-format printing

The Crossrail project that will see the Elizabeth line connect London with the South East of England, has provided the perfect opportunity for one firm to print and install 450m of hoarding graphics for the development.

Press On produced the signage for the project which explains the progress and what can be expected from the new railway line. Artwork was created for each individual station. The firm has installed hoardings at Bond Street, Paddington, Liverpool Street, Oxford Street, Moorgate, Farringdon, Custom House, and Whitechapel stations.

Managing director of Press On, Nigel Webster, comments: “We’ve worked with Crossrail for a number of years now and were delighted to be asked to produce and install the refreshed construction site hoardings. As always deadlines were tight, but our recently improved production capacity helped us with this project and everything went without a hitch.”

The firm used its HP Latex 3500 to print the graphics with HP Latex inks onto permanent vinyl, which was then placed onto 3mm aluminium composite material (ACM) panels.

Press On had to discuss with the different contractors at each station in order to figure out the logistics for the project, with access to building sites a concern. The company did not want to disrupt any of the work going on.

The Kent-based large-format digital printers took on the challenge of providing the graphics for the Crossrail project, which will see the construction of ten new stations and the connecting of 42km of new tunnels under London with lines that already exist. The project costs £14.8bn to construct, and will open in December 2019.
