A family affair

Having talked to Elite Signs and Graphics for this month’s Ahead of the Curve (page 58) I started to think about all the families out there who share a talent or who pass down a business to each other, generation after generation.

A family-run sign business evokes certain feelings of quality and loyalty, things that are important for a customer when considering which business to turn to for their requirements.

Of course, taking a business that was formed, say, 50 years ago and making it current is important. That might mean making a few investments into the latest equipment or keeping up with new design trends and materials, for example, vehicle wrap films.

At the other end of the spectrum, there are those budding sign-makers which are just starting out that need reliable yet affordable equipment. If this description fits you better, then you may want to give our Tech Buzz (page 60) section a read, where we review the Mutoh ValueJet 1604X. You may have seen the machine at Sign and Digital UK, but if you missed it, we have summed up all of its best features for you.

Another exciting addition to this month’s issue is our feature on the British Sign Awards (page 93), which were set up by the BSGA. There have been some truly spectacular entries over the two years that the awards have been running, one of which you can see above from Sign of the Times, so it will be exciting to see this year’s entries.

You can now read the latest issue of Signlink in our online archive: signlink.co.uk/Archive.aspx.
