Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects about working in the wide-format print and sign-making markets is you know your work will be seen by people from a whole range of backgrounds.

Whether you are producing direct mail materials for leading retailers, billboards for electronics giants, or even advertising hoardings for clothing heavyweights, your work will be placed in front of individuals of all kinds.

For companies that have partnerships in place with leading sports teams, they can expect their products to be seen by people all around the world, potentially in the millions, thanks to the power of international television broadcasting. This is very much the case with Wolverhampton-based DIS Group, which has a deal in place with the city’s Premier League football team Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Wolverhampton-based company can produce print ranging from small-format jobs to super-size building wraps for its customers

Worldwide exposure

Premier League football means Wolves games are broadcast in countries across the world, meaning some of the print DIS Group produces for the club reaches people as far away as China and the US. Throw in that Wolves are playing in the Europa League this season, and this exposure increases.

Speaking about this partnership, Dave Purcell, sales director at DIS Group, says: “We have worked closely with Wolves for many years, but last year decided to cement our relationship and become an official partner. This has enabled us to work on bigger and better projects within the club, and highlight DIS as a company who can deliver world class creative projects on time and on budget.”

Recent work with the club has included rebranding the club shop for the new kit launches ahead of the 2019-20 season, as well as installing new branding in the tunnel that leads to the pitch. DIS Group has also designed the corridor wallpaper and new dividing wall graphics in the Hayward Suite at Wolves’ Molineux home stadium to sit more within the club’s new brand.

In addition, for the recent visit of Italian Serie A team Torino in the qualifying rounds for the Europa League, DIS Group worked with Wolves to produce a range of Italian  language signage to welcome fans from the continent.

However, DIS Group’s expertise in working with football clubs does not stop with Wolves, with the company having also produced print for Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Celtic, as well as the English Football Association.

We pride ourselves on being creative thinkers in print

“We pride ourselves on being creative thinkers in print,” Purcell says, adding: “We understand that our clients may be overawed by some of the big projects that they have in mind and would like to achieve, so we like to work closely with them and partner them to ensure the process is as smooth and successful as possible.”

Customer focus

Aside from major football clubs, DIS Group also has a number of other contracts in place, including a deal that sees it serve as the official graphic and signage supplier to gym chain Virgin Active UK.

“We provided all the graphic and signage installation at the recently re-furnished Virgin Active Mayfair,” Purcell says, adding: “We are currently working on another four gyms with them as the partnership goes from strength to strength.”

DIS Group is also a long-term supported of the D&AD in London, having worked with the organisation for over eight years, printing and installing graphics for the world famous D&AD Festival and the D&AD New Blood Festival.

But how does DIS Group go about securing such partnerships? Purcell puts most of the company’s success down to how it approaches projects, explaining that it works closely throughout the job and becomes an extension to their team.

“We don’t offer a simple print job, we ensure we offer the full solution and using our expertise and know how we make sure we deliver to the clients high standards,” Purcell says, adding: “We employ our own fitters, which sets us apart and helps us to be able to turn work around faster as we do not rely on sub-contractors as heavily. “We think of ourselves as an extension of our clients’ team, not just a supplier.”

New investment

So where next for DIS Group? Purcell explains that the company is keen to push on in 2020 and expand its customer base, as well as work with existing clients to establish how it can help them with their own business targets.

“Business has been good considering we are in testing times for the country,” he says. “We have had some ups and downs, but have managed to get through and increase our sales figures. With core materials constantly on the rise, we are planning on re-focusing next year to ensure we are as efficient as possible and can sustain our growth.

“We print everything from small-format to super-size building wraps, with an in-house 3D design team and tenstrong installation squad, we have it all covered.

“Our aims for 2019 are to ensure the continued smooth running of the company and look to invest in new equipment and staff to enable and sustain our growth.”
