DOOH competition offers £500,000 prize pot

A yearly digital out-of-home (DOOH) contest, Ocean Digital Creative Competition, has returned for 2021, making it the 12th year the competition has been run by the outdoor advertising company.

The competition challenges and inspires the industry to ‘redefine’ human engagement, giving entrants the chance to have their concepts appear on many of Ocean Outdoor’s most coveted digital screens.

Ocean Labs’ technology including augmented reality, live video streaming, and audience and vehicle detection will be available to brands and creatives should they get through to the winning stages.

Ocean Outdoor has created two categories to separate brands, charities, and their prizes. Previous winners of the contest have gone on to secure prestigious prizes at the Cannes Lions Awards, one of the world’s most respected events for creative excellence in categories like communication, entertainment, and impact.

Speaking about the competition, Helen Haines, Ocean’s head of marketing and events, says: “For 11 years, globally award-winning ideas have been submitted by the media and creative industries, placing digital out-of-home at the centre of creativity and the media plan.

It is these kinds of concepts that we are looking for. All you need is an idea and if you win, we will make it happen.

“More recently, DOOH has demonstrated how it delivers brand value well beyond the physical screen, becoming one of the most amplified communications channels of the year. It is these kinds of concepts that we are looking for. All you need is an idea and if you win, we will make it happen.”

This year’s contest offers a £500,000 prize pot, and a chance for six entrants to appear on Ocean’s premium full motion DOOH platforms throughout UK cities. Agencies and creatives also have the chance to gain a slot on the prominent Piccadilly Lights in London (operated by Ocean on behalf of Landsec).

Entries are free to enter and close on August 27th before being judged by a panel of independent experts who will announce the winners on October 14th.
