FD Signs hails impact of new Kongsberg X24 Edge

West London-based sign-maker FD Signs has revealed its new Kongsberg X24 Edge digital cutting table was responsible for more than £20,000 worth of business during its first two weeks of operation.

Purchased from CMYUK, the new device has had a significant impact on the was FD Signs operates and the type of work it can produce.

As an example, regular work for a long-standing customer that involved the printing and cutting of 500 banners used to take a day-and-a-half, but the new Kongsberg means the job now takes just 20 minutes.

Fintan Delaney, managing director of FD Signs, comments: “I ask myself, why didn’t I buy one before? The savings are huge, but it’s not only that – it’s the quality of work that we’re sending out. Every single one of those banners is the same size.

“If you’re cutting by hand – it doesn’t matter how good or skilled you are – by the time you get to 50 or 60 you’re going to get distracted. Now when you’re bundling them up, you can tell that each one is perfect. They are far easier to package and better to present.”

FD Signs has also benefit from i-Cut software, which Delaney says has allowed for optimised workflow efficiency.

“We haven't had much of a chance to play about with the i-Cut software,” he says, adding: “The work we’ve been doing on it is fairly basic stuff – cutting out lots of squares –  but as time goes on, we’ll become more experienced, ambitious and braver, and will be outputting far more complex things as well.”
