Lextar and X Display to drive MicroLED growth

Lextar Electronics has joined forces with X Display Company (XDC) in an effort to accelerate the development and production of MicroLED technology.

The partnership includes a development and licence agreement and services agreement, whereby Lextar has licensed XDC’s intellectual property, while both Lextar and XDC customers will be supplied with Lextar’s MicroLEDs.

XDC has built a broad IP portfolio of more than 400 patents, with its patented elastomer stamp mass-transfer technology used to mass-produce MicroLED displays for applications such as signage and monitors.

“Lextar is an innovative and dynamic LED company with strong experience in the display industry,” XDC co-founder Matthew Meitl says, adding: “We are excited to partner with Lextar and co-develop MicroLEDs for our customers.”

Lextar is also focused on the LED industry and has invested in several of the next generation LED miniaturisation projects for MicroLED products, including chip, packaging, testing, assembly, module, circuit drives and sub-systems.

Lextar has committed to developing MicroLED technology for years and is known for its expertise in the display industry

C.N. Huang, vice president of Lextar Technology Centre, adds: “Lextar has committed to developing MicroLED technology for years and is known for its expertise in the display industry.

“By virtue of practicing the broad and foundational IP portfolio of XDC with respect to MicroLED, we look forward to the robust cooperation between the two companies to accelerate the commercialisation of next-generation display technology.

“Moreover, our customers can benefit from our one-stop service from MicroLED chip to display module. Together we aim to change the landscape of the display industry.”
