Digital rainbow celebrates key workers

Landsec and Ocean Outdoor have joined forces on an initiative to celebrate the amazing work of key workers during the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis, transforming London Piccadilly Lights into a giant rainbow mosaic.

‘The People’s Picture’ features images of thousands of NHS staff, key workers and carers, telling stories about their experiences during the pandemic.

Created by British artist Helen Marshall, the interactive mosaic includes doctors, nurses, carers, patients and families, with over 12,400 pictures and stories collected so far.

Once the campaign finishes at the end of June, the work can be viewed as a giant interactive online display for people to read.

I particularly wanted the NHS staff, key workers and carers stories to be highlighted

“As an artist I was really moved by the collective creative response of the nation to the pandemic, and like everybody else I wanted to do something,” Marshall says, adding: “I particularly wanted the NHS staff, key workers and carers stories to be highlighted.

“By collecting thousands of photos, videos and stories, I have created one giant interactive rainbow mosaic during my time in lockdown.”

Rosalyn Mackway, business director brand partnerships at Ocean Outdoor, adds: “From Her Majesty the Queen and Sir Captain Tom Moore to all the messages of hope and solidarity carried by our advertisers, the NHS rainbow mosaic is another inspirational moment of togetherness to mark the resilience and spirit of London.”
