Gardiner repurposes to produce PET for PPE

Usually a producer of PET for the wide-format print sector, Gardiner Graphics Group, part of the G3S Group, has repurposed its offerings to provide PPE (personal protective equipment) for front line workers.

A lack of PPE has become a growing concern with many front line workers having to go without or make do with unsuitable alternatives. Gardiner recognised that PET is not in short supply in the UK and with the right equipment, decided to help address this issue.

Producing PPE also ensured that the firm’s production facility does not need to go into shutdown and things can continue to run.

With such a vast stock of PET right here in the UK and the machinery suited to the job, we recognised the increasing demand for PPE items and wanted to help

Tom Powell, chief executive officer of the firm explains: “With such a vast stock of PET right here in the UK and the machinery suited to the job, we recognised the increasing demand for PPE items and wanted to help.

“With a natural downturn in activity within our sector due to government guidance, we wanted to make sure that our Portsmouth manufacturing facility kept moving. To have all the materials and equipment to repurpose into a much-needed item seemed the right thing to do.”

Gardiner is currently manufacturing up to 20,000 units each day and has the capacity to increase this on demand. The firm is also offering to provide flat sheets of prepared PET to other UK manufacturers to create their own designs.
