Mimaki 3D printer presents opportunities

Mimaki Europe has launched a new machine in the form of the Mimaki 3DGD-1800 3D printer, which presents sign-makers and printers with new opportunities.

The new 3DGD-1800 hopes to facilitate large-scale production, which Mimaki says will be up to three times faster than conventional Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) 3D printers. It boasts the ability to produce objects up to 1.8m tall in just seven hours thanks to cost and time saving measures, such as a dual-head configuration.

New opportunities can include life-sized displays, event decorations, movie props, large product mock-ups ad more. Sign-makers and printers can now help in the production of industrial parts such as moulds for vacuum forming, helping manufacturers to reduce their own lead times.

Part of what makes our approach unique here at Mimaki is our dedication to being a total solutions provider

Bert Benckhuysen, senior product manager at Mimaki Europe, explains: “Part of what makes our approach unique here at Mimaki is our dedication to being a total solutions provider, and as such we have ensured that even beyond the 3D printing stage, our Mimaki inkjet printers can then be utilised to add colour and décor, making created objects even more impressive and immensely versatile.”

He adds: “With our unique vision, wealth of experience from across the print industry and unwavering commitment to innovation, we intend to lead the sign and graphics industry in both two – and three-dimensional signage – and then introduction of the new Mimaki 3DGD-1800 is a fantastic step forward in achieving this goal.”

The new 3DGD-1800 will be available from the start of April and utilises 3D data, which means that designs can be seen as finished product based on the data and created in different sizes from this single set of data. The machine also boasts Gel Dispensing Printing technology, which is a gel-type UV curable resin. This means it is instantly cured while enabling lamination speeds of up to 350mm in height per hour.

This is an exciting release from Mimaki that will be of great interest to the UK and Ireland 3D printing market

Benckhuysen continues: “We are very excited to bring such a transformative product to market. With unprecedented modelling speeds and the possibility to create enormous objects even beyond the sizeable formation area, the 3DGD-1800 represents a real transformation in large-sized production.

“Combined with the superior quality that we have become known for here at Mimaki, the potential impact of this new 3D printer is tremendous – particularly for the sign and display market but also far beyond that. The opportunities are boundless.”

Hybrid Services is the UK and Ireland distributor for Mimaki, and Brett Newman, chief operations manager, adds: “This is an exciting release from Mimaki that will be of great interest to the UK and Ireland 3D printing market. Mimaki’s continued innovation in the 3D printing, combined with its heritage across 2D printing provides a wonderfully unique approach that will give a complete solution for print-service-providers.”
