However, there has been an air of uncertainty around the show amidst the global coronavirus outbreak.

In the run up to the show, LG and liyama withdrew their participation following the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) announcement that the new virus outbreak is now a “public health emergency of international concern”.

In a statement at the time, LG says: “LG regrets having to make this difficult decision, but the safety of employees and customers continues to be its number one priority.

“With the WHO recommending that individuals ‘promote social distancing’, LG management believes that the most responsible decision is to avoid participating in large public events until the situation stabilises.”

ISE has since confirmed that a further 50 Chinese companies have had to withdraw from the exhibition due to travel restrictions and flight cancellations. However, there are still over 1,250 exhibitors who will remain in the show.

As exhibitors and organisers prepared for the opening of the show, ISE released a final statement which says: “As exhibitors move in and set up continues on, the show management of ISE and executive staff of both AVIXA and CEDIA are continuing to monitor this fast-moving situation through the advice of public health authorities.

“We want to reassure our exhibitors, attendees and staff that health and safety is our paramount and first concern as we consider the decision around the ISE show.”

Organisers of the show have put in precautionary measurements such as additional hand sanitising facilities, additional cleaning and sanitising of all registration equipment and focused presenter protocol including the cleaning of keyboards and microphones after every speaking session.

At present, the WHO has confirmed a total of 40,554 people have tested positive for the coronavirus globally, with the death toll nearing 1,000.
