Vice president puts pedal to the metal

Drytac recently tried a more unusual method of testing its products – one that took place across 5600 miles and 72 hours.

The strength of its Polar Chrome metallic print media was put on trial during an expedition across desert and snow - and survived to tell the tale.

Polar Chrome is a 75 micron reflective silver PET film and is available in rolls up to 60” wide. The film is compatible with a range of printing technologies including eco-solvent, solvent, latex and UV.

The film can be used for indoor and short-term outdoor signage, billboards and exhibition graphics, point-of-sale displays, bus and subway advertisements, decals, and ultra-reflective labels.

Jerry Hill, vice president of business development at Drytac donned his biking boots accompanied by the Polar Chrome and rode on a motorcycle from Richmond to Las Vegas for the International Sign Association (ISA) International Sign Expo.

A decal was specially designed for the expedition and applied to Hill’s black powder coated bike bags.

I ended up with a 5,600 mile journey of personal exuberance with the decal performing flawlessly, never budging, shrinking, or peeling - even a smidge

The trip spanned 5600 miles and took 72 hours. Hill endured extreme temperatures, venturing into the ominously named ‘Death Valley’ in California and braved the snow, sleet and hail in mountainous Colorado.

Hill says: "I ended up with a 5,600 mile journey of personal exuberance with the decal performing flawlessly, never budging, shrinking, or peeling - even a smidge.

"I now know that I can tell my customers, with confidence, that whatever graphic they build, that Polar Chrome will be at their side until the end of the journey."

Whilst the Polar Chrome was not developed as a vehicle graphic media, Drytac’s inventive investigation has “more than proven its endurance for applications such as signage, award plaques, and point-of-purchase displays”.
