Saving lives with digital out-of-home

A new range of digital out-of-home signage has been designed which combines adverts and informative content with life-saving features.

JCDecaux has designed the new range by combining digital advertising with free public services such as a free payphone, a defibrillator and USB charging.

The digital phone kiosks featuring defibrillators will be installed in seven new cities including Birmingham, Cardiff and Manchester as part of a larger nationwide roll-out of digital street furniture.

Phil Dyre, chief commercial development officer at JCDecaux, explains the thinking behind the new screens: “JCDecaux has worked closely with The Community Heartbeat Trust charity to bring these defibrillators to some of the UK’s busiest streets – providing a valuable public service that could save lives when time is of the essence.

As this initiative shows, outdoor advertising can play a key part in communities through the public amenities funded by advertising

“This innovative street furniture is located in the busiest locations where people are out shopping, commuting and socialising, benefitting residents and tourists as well as local and national brands. As this initiative shows, outdoor advertising can play a key part in communities through the public amenities funded by advertising including this innovative street furniture with defibrillators, free payphone and wayfinding information.”

In addition to the life saving defibrillators, the phone kiosks will feature services such as free calls to landlines and a 36-inch interactive touch screen for wayfinding and useful information.
