Opening the school doors to Drytac

In preparation for the new school year, Doncaster-based Hall Cross Academy turned to Turner Signs to refresh its large empty spaces.

Having come across its work on Instagram, a teacher approached the Barnsley sign company with their ideas for the building transformation.

Due to the size of the project, Turner Signs called in the help of design agency Ginger Fox Studio to complete the artwork.

A Mimaki CJV150 integrated printer/cutter meant the sign company completed the printing and cutting stage in two days.

Needing a strong adhesive for the wall graphics to be installed onto brick, Turner Signs chose to use Drytac’s Polar Grip self-adhesive PVC film with a high-bond adhesive.

The firm decorated numerous walls and windows with the school’s bold designs featuring its name and words such as ‘community’ and ‘equality’, all in its colours of red, grey, black and white.

Curt Turner, director at Turner Signs, reflects on the process: “I applied a sample to the wall of our workshop as a test run and it worked really well and was really easy to install.

“It comes away from the silicone material well and is very forgiving when fixing errors. I will definitely use it again and recommend it to Turner Signs customers.”

Having first opened in 1990 as a traditional sign-writing shop, Turner Signs has since grown with most of its work now involving vinyl signage and vehicle graphics.
