Epson launches first 12-colour photo printers

Epson has launched its first series of 12-colour, large-format photo printers and proofers.

The SureColor 24-inch SC-P7500 and the 44-inch SC-P9500 are aimed at artists and photographers for professional proofing and rapid throughput for high volume production.

The new printers use the newly developed Ultrachrome Pro12 inkset with K3 technology, which outputs both black inks simultaneously and includes orange, green and violet to achieve its widest colour gamut with 99% Pantone coverage.

Epson is promoting the new range with photographer Clifford who has captured some of the most famous faces in music and pop culture.

Having worked mostly out of the spotlight, Clifford saw his images printed for the first time in his first exhibition last year. Impressed by the quality of the printers, Clifford is now an ambassador for Epson.

Phil McMullin, pro graphics sales manager, Epson UK, says: “In order to produce products that are truly innovative, we have to listen to what our customers really need, and what they don’t need.

I believe that we’ve achieved something special that offers greater creative freedom and new potential business opportunities to our users

“This allows us to build printers with no superfluous technology – and focus on what matters most to those who are using them, every day.

"With this in mind, I believe that we’ve achieved something special that offers greater creative freedom and new potential business opportunities to our users.”

The P-series also uses Epson’s PrecisionCore Micro TFP12 printheads, using up to 800 nozzles for each colour to produce accurate dot placement and eliminate misprints. Both printers can support fine art paper, canvas and photo paper.

McMullin concludes: “To be able to offer 12-colour photo printers is a genuine first for us at Epson. This is further complemented by impressive print speeds, output quality and a user-friendly interface. Everything is designed to work in perfect harmony as we offer the complete solution – printer, inks, substrates, software and support.”

The SureColor SC-P7500 and SC-P9500 are available from December 2019.
