Anti no-deal Brexit campaign gains traction

A Crowdfunder has been launched to raise money for an anti no-deal Brexit campaign which uses billboards to challenge the views of prime minister Boris Johnson and the British government.

At the start of the year, a group called Led By Donkeys installed a collection of political billboards which quoted Brexit MPs on things they had said about Brexit in the past – contrary to their later views.

As the unknown outcome of a potential no-deal Brexit draws nearer, the group is back and is currently crowdfunding for a new campaign.

On its Crowdfunder page, the group states: “Boris Johnson and Michael Gove are about to spend £100m of public money on a no-deal Brexit advertising blitz. But they can’t be trusted to tell the truth. So we’ve launched a campaign that an honest government would run.”

Designed in the style of official government posters, the billboards feature warnings from Johnson’s ministers and leaked government documents on the reality of a no-deal Brexit.

The group has already installed the billboards on over twelve sites but is hoping to raise up to £75,000 so it can “plaster the whole of the UK with the truth about a Boris Brexit”.

One billboard quotes cabinet minister and Vote Leave leader Michael Gove and reads: “If we leave without a deal, there will be significant costs to our economy – and in particular to farming and food production”.

According to Led By Donkeys, each billboard costs approximately £1,000 to install and are 100% funded through contributions on its crowdfunding page.

The statement continues: “If we raise just 0.05% of the government’s advertising budget - £50,000 -we can get 50 of these billboards up in every corner of the country and spark conversations in local communities about what a no-deal Brexit really means.”

At the time of writing, the group had raised £55,100 of its £75,000 target.
