Manufacturer pedals positivity on Brexit

Blackman & White has made national headlines after appearing on Channel 5 News.

Managing director of Blackman & White, Alex White, was approached by the news channel to appear in a special report exploring how British businesses are reacting to both the appointment of new prime minister Boris Johnson, and the looming Brexit deadline.

As the only UK manufacturer of cutting systems, Blackman & White exports its machines all over the world, whilst also important component for its machines from various overseas markets.

White comments: “For the long-term, I can see some significant advantages in being separated from the EU, making partnerships with other countries and looking towards a future with some of the emerging economies in the Commonwealth.

“Brexit is an emotive subject at the moment, but pragmatically a line in the sand needs to be drawn on October 31st. A definite decision and a date are needed to give everybody the opportunity to get on and make plans to achieve the best possible outcome for the economy.”

White echoed the sentiment of Boris Johnson, by saying that people would be best served to embrace the process and pedal a more positive attitude around the issue.

“The chances for a second referendum are slight and would only cause uncertainty for another three years - embracing the process to get the best possible outcome is only logical,” adds White.

The UK is due to leave the European Union on October 31st, but it is still unclear whether the UK will leave with a withdrawal deal or not.

Blackman & White, currently celebrating its 55th year in business, employs 28 people at its factory in Essex and produces specialised cutting machines for a number of industries and applications, including signage and graphics, garments and upholstery, with an increasing demand from the print sector for its machines.
