SGIA recognises members’ safety efforts

The Speciality Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) has recognised the safety efforts of 18 of its member companies by awarding them its Annual Safety Recognition Program award.

The purpose of the programme is to promote awareness among member companies and staff of the importance of a safe working environment and to stress the importance of compliance with all state/provincial and national safety laws and standards.

The award celebrates the firms’ safety efforts throughout 2018 and is based on a points system. Participating companies can earn points by completing action items such as bi-monthly safety checks, establishing safety committees and attending safety webinars.

Commenting, Gary Jones, director of environmental, health, and safety affairs at SGIA says: “SGIA’s Safety Recognition Program promotes awareness among members easy-to-implement resources that allow them to put a focus on safety and comply with OSHA’s (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) requirements.

Our relocation to a new and larger facility in 2017 provided the perfect opportunity to practice what we preach

“The benefits of participation are significant, as it allows companies to avoid OSHA fines, which just increased again for 2019, and studies have shown that maintaining a safe working environment improves productivity and reduces operating costs.”

Finishing in the top three with the highest total points was LEM Products, Image Options and Beacon Promotions. As well as an award plaque, the firms won an Amazon Kindle, a $75 Amazon gift card and $50 Amazon gift card respectively.

Jeff Kulp, production supervisor at LEM Products, which also won the award in 2016 and 2017, says: “Coming to LEM Products where our business is so closely tied to OSHA and factory safety, I was inspired to make our plant a showcase for safety.

“Our relocation to a new and larger facility in 2017 provided the perfect opportunity to practice what we preach. It was not our plan or goal to win an award. Our objective was to provide a safe and secure workplace for our employees.”
