Eco fashion label recycles used vinyl for charity

Ocean Outdoor has partnered with fashion label VIN + OMI to bring the world’s first eco fashion label designed using old vinyl from the DOOH (digital out-of-home) owner.

The fashion label, the first of its kind from a UK outdoor media owner, is launching with men’s and women’s accessories made from old vinyl panels from the firm’s advertising displays.

The new label marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between the fashion house and Ocean, where all old vinyl from the company will be repurposed.

The Ocean label will be produced in the UK with all pieces going to Ocean’s charity partner, the Marine Conservation Society, to help support the protection of the world’s oceans and marine life and the fight against plastic pollution.

Ocean senior marketing executive, Liliana Teixeira, says: “As a 95% based digital media company, Ocean is actively moving away from the use of vinyl. That said, it’s important we find the best possible way to upcycle the vinyl we do still use. This partnership also allows us to support emerging creative talent which adds to its scale and impact.”

This new venture is an incredibly creative approach to funding to help support the change our seas need to recover

The fashion range will be designed in collaboration with students from Oxford Brookes University, with the launch collection making its debut at VIN + OMI’s London Fashion Week show on February 14th at the Andaz London.

Sandy Luk, Marine Conservation Society’s chief executive officer, comments: “Our partnership with Ocean began with a powerful outdoor campaign that triggered a significant shift in public sentiment against the perils of plastic. This new venture is an incredibly creative approach to funding to help support the change our seas need to recover.”

VIN + OMI comments: “We are delighted to be collaborating with Ocean on this project. They have taken a great innovative approach to recycling their old advertising canvases.  We hope to develop this collaboration to produce a range of items made from the canvases and in return support the Marine Conservation Society from the proceeds.

Ocean will show highlights from the show across its Grid network and on the Piccadilly Lights advertising space, owned by Landsec.
