Yorkshire sign amuses drivers

An unusual sign which plays on the Yorkshire accent and reads: “Err Nerr Rerd Werks,” has been tickling the drivers of Hull.

Family-run Roche Civil Engineering is behind the light-hearted sign and says it wanted to bring a smile to those disrupted by road works in the area.

The firm says the reaction from locals has been so great, it is considering getting the saying printed onto its vans and hi-vis jackets.

Passers-by took to Twitter to comment on the sign, with one person saying: “That has cheered me up today. Need to start a campaign for all signs to be in ‘Ull.”

No one likes roadworks and if people are held up slightly and it puts a smile on their face then all the better. We could put it on the vans and the hi-vis jackets, it could become our little catchphrase maybe!

Another congratulated Roche Civil Engineering for trying to brighten up the journeys of those passing through Hull with the inventive signs.

Commenting on where the idea came from, Daniel Roche, director of Roche Civil Engineering says: “No one likes roadworks and if people are held up slightly and it puts a smile on their face then all the better. We could put it on the vans and the hi-vis jackets, it could become our little catchphrase maybe!”
