Looking down at the future of adverts

Instead of big billboards and adverts placed at eye level and above, one company is looking to the ground for potential.

With so many of us today looking down at our smartphones, a social phenomenon coined the ‘zombie walk’, digital media supplier Guandong believes the pavement could be a viable place to place advertisements.

The Italy-based firm’s dedicated research and development department has developed a range of new media supports for pavements in a new folder of samples and technical fact sheets. Among the proposals outlined are media supports that could be applied to rugs and carpets, ‘print and walk’ materials for short-life communications and a non-slip surface called Mak Flooring that could be used on stairs, wet pavements and humid surfaces.

The new folder dedicated to floor graphics is fruit of many months of hard work and commitment to perfecting extremely innovative media supports

“The new folder dedicated to floor graphics is fruit of many months of hard work and commitment to perfecting extremely innovative media supports, which offer new levels of performance to printers and communicators who are continuously searching for technically evolved solutions for high impact messages”, explains Fabio Elmi, Guandong’s marketing director.

Floor graphics are already an extremely popular medium for communicating a message, particularly in entrances to buildings or for providing directions within an establishment. Temporary use of these floor graphics is often seen at events and shows where the organiser wants to capture its audience at every turn. Designers and developers have to ensure the floor graphics are safe to be walked on and durable enough to survive thousands of footsteps over it.
