Celebrating Pride in the sign industry

Every summer, cities around the country celebrate the lesbian, bi-sexual, gay and transgender (LGBT+) community with vibrant colours and rainbows, which are the symbol of gay pride. The sign industry has played its part in promoting equality and celebrating, with a colourful display of support.

A fleet of Automobile Association, or the AA as most people know them, have had their vans transformed into rainbow-inspired celebrations of love, thanks to Fleet Livery Solutions (FLS) and 3M products.

With devastating events taking place over the last few years including the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, support for the LGBT+ community is vital. While it is now more widely accepted to be openly gay, lesbian or transgender, many still face discrimination and hatred from those that disagree.

It is an uplifting celebration of diversity and our support underlines our fundamental commitment to ensuring equality is embedded with the AA

As a show of support, ten AA vehicles were wrapped using Scotchlite Print Wrap Film 780mc-10R from 3M, ready to be involved in London Pride alongside 500 other parade groups this weekend.

Edmund King, AA president, said: “Visibility of our vans are always important as they need to stand out and be seen. These limited-edition rainbow vans are a welcome addition to our fleet and certainly make a positive statement.

“We’re honoured to be adding a big splash of colour and all things rainbow to our summer this year by supporting Pride. It is an uplifting celebration of diversity and our support underlines our fundamental commitment to ensuring equality is embedded with the AA.”

Ashley Gloyn, FLS managing director, adds: “When the AA asked us to come up with a design for Pride in London, we knew we had to do something a bit special, which is why we decided to do the whole thing using Scotchlite Print Wrap film 780mc-10R by 3M. When the sun hits it, it’s really vibrant and at night it shines – just like switching a light on – so the design really stands out. It’s perfect.”

3M marketing manager for commercial solutions division, Pen Webley, concludes: “We’re delighted to have been a part of this project. The vans look fantastic and will certainly be something for the AA to be proud of at the Pride in London Parade.”
