Signlink Live a “breath of fresh air”

A unique exhibition for the sign industry kicked off today to a promising start, with exhibitors excited about the opportunity to showcase the ‘nuts and bolts’ of this multi-faceted industry. The show runs for October 12th and 13th and is a real 'must-attend' event for any sign-making business wishing to improve their competitiveness and profitability.

Signlink Live is taking place over the next three days at the International Centre in Telford, so come along to see the latest in signage.

My first stop in the hall was to Applelec (stand L33), which has brought along a range of innovative signage solutions. Carl Eastwood, commercial director of Applelec, told me: “Set up was great, it has been friendly and organised. The show is a breath of fresh air.”

Applelec is showcasing its new LED letter range, Neon Lux. Eastwood says it is efficient, with many different colours available, and is very strong, adding: “There has been an emerging demand for internal low level signage of this kind. It is ideal for retail, point-of-sale, and corporate branding.”

Also on display was Sloan LED, of which Applelec is now the second exclusive distributor of. Visitors will see TEXA Frame, a textile frame system that is popular for indoor applications. The light panel inside can be set to change colour, giving the image a cool, colour change effect. Also on the stand is I-Sign Flex, a premium frame solution that opens with a patented spring mechanism that is cleverly concealed.

The opportunity to be here at a show that is about the essence of fabrication was one we could not miss

Signlink Live is delighted to welcome Smith (stand K09), division of William Smith, to the show, as it is the first trade event the company has exhibited at since it launched last year. Kyle Giles, marketing executive of Smith, says: “The brand is still in its infancy so we are here to get the name out there into the market more. The opportunity to be here at a show that is about the essence of fabrication was one we could not miss.”

Launched in 2016, Smith has come to Signlink Live to put the message out about its bespoke signage offering

Smith is a trade supplier of bespoke illuminated signage and is showcasing built up letters, tray signs, and even a sign made out of astro turf, showing many of the different signs that are possible for a range of applications.

Ashby Trade Sign Supplies (stand L01) has used not only the inside of its stand to showcase different types of signage but also built products into its stand design. For example, manager Nate Debney tells me that one of its company name branded signs on the outside of its stand is a popular product currently, a fret cut sign with a push through effect.

It is this focus on product that is really important to the company for this particular show. Charlie Horseman, sales manager, comments: “We are quite unique in that we have brought a lot of products. Our objective is to make the most informative stand we can, as sign-makers want to see first-hand what is achievable, see what we do, and find out what we do that they were not aware of.”

Examples of different types of signage displayed by Ashby Trade Sign Supplies includes plate stands, glass effect stands, troughlight stands, tray stands, lightbox stands, and more. Head on over to the stand for more information.

Marqet Space has a big presence at co-located event The Print Show but you can also check out some of its display stand and other fabric products at Signlink Live in The Profit Factory. Some examples include the Sydney pop out banner, Boston seating cube, and Agra gazebo. I especially liked the Bogota café barrier for The Pink Gin Distillery Plymouth, showcasing how something simple can make all the difference to making your business stand out.

Last, but certainly not least, make sure you check out For the Love of Neon (M01) at the back of the hall at Signlink Live. Neon Workshops is running the area and demonstrating how to make this nostalgic medium. Richard Wheater from the company says: “We are enjoying spreading the good word of neon. It is nice to have a platform to set the record straight. The sign industry has become about maximising profit margins but there is a niche of customers that want something crafted. Neon sticks out as an alluring alternative.”
