DCL Print makes world first with Xerox

Print service provider DCL Print has used its recent purchase of a Xerox Direct to Object Inkjet Printer to achieve its ambition of generating new revenue streams and creating a new standalone business; it was the first company in the world to invest in the technology.

Based in Crawley, Personaliz has been using the new printer to supply customers in the retail, sport and health sectors with on-demand, personalised printed products such as water bottles for schools or promotional champagne bottles.

Simon Gardner, sales director at DCL Print, says: “Following a successful demo at Drupa 2016, we recognised that the Xerox Direct to Object Inkjet Printer would enable us to diversify and create a brand-new business to drive new revenue streams. The investment has allowed us to stay ahead of the competition by offering customers the latest technology when it comes to personalisation.”

The machine, which has been in place at Personaliz since November 2016, is able to print up to 30 objects per hour at resolutions of 300 to 1,200dpi.

With rising consumer demand for personalised items, Xerox innovation has made it possible for our customer, DCL Print, to tap into an increasing market need

The machine includes microscopic print nozzles that shoot droplets of ink up to 5mm—further than the 1mm range found in traditional inkjet printers. Xerox said that this extended range makes it possible to provide seamless printing across curved or uneven surfaces such as ceramics, glass, metal and plastics.

Andrew Morrison, managing director for Xerox UK and Ireland, says: “With rising consumer demand for personalised items, Xerox innovation has made it possible for our customer, DCL Print, to tap into an increasing market need.”
