Signs Express buzzing with special project

The South Durham and Teesside branch of Signs Express recently took part in a community-minded project with local artist Vicky Holbrough and Tees Valley Arts to give a new lease of life to two bridges in the largest park in Darlington

The bridges, which are part of a heritage trail that works its through the park, now feature artwork that was created by Signs Express and Holbrough, but inspired by the wildlife of the North-East’s rivers.

Reflecting on the project, which was launched in a bid to encourage people to reconnect with the River Tees, Daniel Pickersgill, owner of Signs Express (South Durham & Teesside), said: “It is an honour to work with local artists, as this allows us to promote local talent and this project in particular has enabled us to improve a prolific bridge in the area.

“We still have one more bridge to decorate with Vicky’s eye-catching designs and we look forward to this second stage of the project greatly as it is quirky.”

Holbrough was also positive about the special project, commenting: “From first enquiries through to print and installation Signs Express has been supportive, thoughtful and efficient in helping me realise a commission for a piece of public art in Darlington.

“Working to create a piece of art for public spaces is often not straightforward and the work has to meet the needs of the brief as well as being sensitive to the environment and site conditions, all of which Signs Express has considered in their approach.”
