‘Block out’ technology opens possibilities

Sign-makers Brownings, along with a print partner, have launched a blocked out skin technology that provides clients with greater flexibility at less cost for more creative signage.

Richard Vincent, sales director of Brownings, says: “Traditionally when a company wanted to illuminate and accentuate certain areas on their internal textile graphic signage they would need to use electroluminated signs - where your lighting and design is contained in one fixed unit. This had the obvious disadvantage of whenever a customer wanted to change the sign graphic, they would need to purchase an entirely new unit.

“They have developed a new way of producing the soft signage skins that allows them to produce a graphic with a partial or full block out. What this means is that companies can now have one unit made that is fully lit and (using our unique printing process) choose which areas of their design they would like to illuminate and even at what gradient level.

“Consequently when the company wishes to change their textile graphic it’s simple, they only pay for a new graphic to be printed rather than a whole fixed unit. What’s more, Brownings’ unique TexSign fabric faced graphics are designed to quickly push into place, meaning a graphic can be changed easily in minutes.

“Brands are very tightly controlled so up until now the client has had to adjust his brand to suit the internal signage. What they can now do is bring the styling and lighting effects from external signage on PVC to soft signage on fabric.”

Vincent highlights the growth of the textile and soft signage market, noting that they now get as many enquiries for soft signage as they do for external signage.

Vincent concludes: “It adds a new dimension to internal signage which is exciting. People are always looking for the new and the vibrant, and this certainly is.”
