Colex sharpens up with new technology

One of the world’s key manufacturers of wide-format print finishing solutions has revealed that the recent launch of the Colex Sharpcut 3232 at ISA Sign Expo in Orlando Florida was a pivotal strategic move for the firm—stimulating an upswing in sales and market share growth.

“The system is designed to speed up the process of cutting soft to rigid boards, vinyl, fabric, and textiles by utilising the automatic board feeder or the roll feeder allowing for faster production runs,” explains Steve Leopold, managing director of Leopold Professional Imaging—a key distributor of the technology in the UK.

The Sharpcut Conveyor is designed to operate with minimal operator intervention when equipped with the automatic board feeder or the roll feeder.

Leopold continues: “The Sharpcut 3232 is special as it serves two markets; the textile customer is able to cut fabric/textile with a fully automatic roll feeder and conveyor table and printing of boards is able to cut boards with an automatic board loader and conveyor table to guarantee non-stop production.”

He continues: “The Sharpcut Conveyor features the Triple Interchangeable Tool Head station, which selects the proper tool for the job and an energy efficient 6-Zone vacuum system with the Vision Registration System.  The Sharpcut Conveyor package also includes a fixed knife, oscillating knife, and a router.”

The system also offers a new and improved oscillating knife cuts at 14,000 strokes per minute, reportedly cutting 50 percent faster than previous systems, along with a variety of new tools offered to customize the Sharpcut Conveyor to suit specific needs and workflow. These include the universal drawing tool, v-cut knife for 90 degree folds, coroplast knife, creasing wheel, universal single edge knife for sintra up to 6mm, and the new motorized rotary knife for fabrics.

Leopold concludes: “The Colex Sharpcut handles all materials from paper through to MDF, acrylic, foamex, aluminium, and wood up to 25mm thick. It can also hit a cutting speed of 63m/min.”
