Thousands of jobs axed at HP

Print heavyweight HP has revealed that as many as 30,000 jobs will be lost as it splits into two separate companies.

As part of a new restructuring plan, the company is dividing its corporate hardware and services division from its more successful computer and printer operations, which has already resulted in a loss of 55,000 jobs.

We can now more aggressively go after the opportunities created by a rapidly changing market

Chief executive officer Meg Whitman comments: "We've done a significant amount of work over the past few years to take costs out and simplify processes and these final actions will eliminate the need for any future corporate restructuring.

"We can now more aggressively go after the opportunities created by a rapidly changing market."

It was not revealed which parts of the group will endure the most cuts, but industry insiders have speculated that the job losses are higher than expected, and that further redundancies could be announced in the near future.
