Cool, by name and by nature

The managing director of specialist sign-maker and glazing specialist CoolGlass has received applause from across the Twittersphere after posting images of his newly wrapped company van.

Done with his own two hands over a bank holiday, Mark Bletcher was inspired to do the wrap after attending an open day at William Smith held at 3M’s Birmingham base.

He takes up the story: “My previous van was white and used all the colours from my logo, but my colours pop out better on a white background rather than black and I feared I would lose the dark blue of the logo so a new concept was needed.

“I was on a budget so I bought 5m of 3M Matt Black and 5m of 3M Stainless Black and pretty much set to it from concept on Good Friday. It took me a while as it was difficult trying to figure out how I was going to get the different angles of the shards to be in the correct place and layering up the text to make it pop out.

The one humorous thing about it is when you open the driver sliding door it splits the text so the website address becomes ass.co.uk, which I believe to be a pornographic site rather than coolglass.co.uk. It’s unfortunate, funny, and was difficult to avoid—so we don’t leave that door open for long

“I also used a silver polymeric vinyl so it actually looks like it’s been cut through close up, and the text has a silver interior. The front and rear text has six layers of vinyl and the side has three layers.”

Not all has been plain sailing though says Bletcher: “The one humorous thing about it is when you open the driver sliding door it splits the text so the website address becomes ass.co.uk, which I believe to be a pornographic site rather than coolglass.co.uk. It’s unfortunate, funny, and was difficult to avoid—so we don’t leave that door open for long.”
