The BCF has published figures indicating that what’s going to the dump is now 2.8kg per tonne of production, compared to the 1996 figure of around 50kg.

The information has been gathered from the organisation’s Coatings Care Programme, where data on waste is gathered from just under 40 sites run by members who report on a variety of health, safety and environmental Key Performance Indicators.
To incentivise members the BCF make annual awards and they are working on a project to clean up paint waste downstream, something MPs picked up on a report last year.
