William Smith on the road with Le Tour

Signage and digital print trade supplier William Smith helped welcome the Tour de France’s Grand Départ event to the UK earlier this year by installing a range of signage around the race’s route in Yorkshire

Serving as a platform to start the famous cycle race, this year’s Grand Départ was awarded to the picturesque county of Yorkshire in northern England.

As part of preparations for the event, North Yorkshire County Council called on William Smith to produce and deliver 520 temporary signs just two weeks before the event.

Using 3M Engineering Grade and non-reflective material, William Smith completed the task in time for the landmark event, which attracted millions of spectators from across the country.

We chose William Smith for this job because we knew they had the capacity to manage the very tight turnaround time; and they are also a local company

Speaking about the project, Peter Horne from North Yorkshire County Council’s Highways Department, comments: “The signage was required for traffic and pedestrian management across North Yorkshire for Stage 1 of the race.

“It included directional traffic signage, notification of where spectators were not permitted, No Parking notices, and radio frequencies for traffic information.

“We chose William Smith for this job because we knew they had the capacity to manage the very tight turnaround time; and they are also a local company.

“The service we received was excellent and the production staff were really helpful.”
