DisplayMapper claims world first with MirrorBox

DisplayMapper, a division of projection specialist Projection Artworks, has unveiled what it claims to be the world’s first fully daylight-visible retail solution in the form of the free-standing MirrorBox

Described as a new type of point-of-sale (POS) display unit, the firm says MirrorBox allows super-bright 3D projection mapping to be beamed onto physical products in a daylight-visible retail environment.

Tom Burch, managing director of DisplayMapper and Projection Artworks, enthuses: “MirrorBox is the first of a whole new generation of POS displays, driven by a relatively low-cost 3D projection system that can centrally control and distribute valuable content to hundreds of MirrorBox displays situated across the globe.”

DisplayMapper says its team has harnessed new high-brightness projection technology and combined it with its own design, mirrors, and specialist lenses to offer the solution for in-store displays.

The use of mirrors means that a complete projection can be mapped onto products with one projector, while a high-definition display behind the product creates patterns when combined with the mirrored effect in the box.

The product also utilises DisplayMapper’s bespoke cloud-based software, which, controlled and updated from a central network, allows clients to develop and automatically deliver their own content.

Burch adds: “There’s nothing you would normally associate with a projector install—no keyboard, no monitors, no cable runs. It’s all self-contained, controlled by an app and very easy to use.”
