Zapkut offers Piggotts substantial time savings

Display and creative specialist, Piggotts, claims to have developed a strategy to deliver a 30 percent time saving on sheet material cutting, with the help of Zapkut

The Essex-based firm had previously been using a table saw for sheet material sizing, a process that created problems in terms of accuracy. In addition, four operators were required to cut large sheets on the table, while the machine was not capable of cutting strips much wider than 300mm.

These issues convinced the firm to invest in new kit, opting for a ZM12 moving column vertical panel saw, from British wall saw specialist, Zapkut. Piggotts creative manager, Mark Archer, has paid tribute to the effect the machine has had on the business and the valuable savings it has produced.

“It was immediately obvious how easy the machine would be to use,” he said, adding: “Sheet cutting is much easier and quicker. A single cut now gives the precision and finish we need, with no need for sanding—on larger jobs that makes for a huge time saving. We're getting sheet cutting done about 30 percent faster than before, without compromising on quality.”

The significant time savings mean that for every three hours needed previously, only two are now required.

Archer also highlighted the repeat cut functionality as a key advantage of the ZM12: “"Just set the dimensions and away you go. It doesn't matter whether you're cross-cutting or ripping; the moving column makes them both really easy— pushing the board through the machine isn’t needed.”
