BrightSign has launched a new hands-free solution for digital signage

Designed by BrightSign, the new solution allows users to interact verbally with the digital signage using “wake words” and natural voice commands to trigger the playback of content.

Hosted locally on a BrightSign player, the technology used in BrightVoice is the same as that which is used in smart speakers and other similar devices but doesn’t require the use of internet.

The first content management system (CMS) partner to implement this solution is Reflect. The firm has integrated it into its ReflectView software platform having recently built a BrightVoice-enabled solution for a wireless communications service provider.

As a result of this partnership, the new voice-activated digital signage has now been rolled out in retail locations across the US, with more than 1,000 more stores set to receive the solution in the upcoming months.

Smart devices such as speakers, watches and phones have propelled voice interactivity into the mainstream, and therefore voice-activated digital signage is a natural extension of that workflow.

Commenting on the new technology, Jeff Hastings, chief executive officer of BrightSign says: “Smart devices such as speakers, watches and phones have propelled voice interactivity into the mainstream, and therefore voice-activated digital signage is a natural extension of that workflow.

“What’s unique about the BrightVoice solution is that it enables manufacturers to demonstrate their own smart devices at retail and other pop-up locations without requiring an internet connection. This will be welcome news for any brand or retailer that’s ever grappled with the challenge of demonstrating cloud-enabled devices to customers via intermittent (or non-existent) network connections.”

Bart Massey, chief technology officer at Reflect adds: “Voice control introduces an entirely new dimension to digital signage and is a key differentiator that distinguishes our platform as one of the most powerful and versatile CMS solutions available.”
