PPG and Avery Dennison commercialise foil solution
Avery Dennison and PPG have announced they have signed an agreement to further commercialise the companies’ self-adhesive fouling release foil for use on ship hulls.

The biocide-free fouling release foil has been developed for the commercial yachting sector
The foil was developed as part of the partially EU-funded eSHaRk project, which brings together leading marine experts and engineers to create an innovative new fouling protection system.
The two firms initiated the project to develop an advanced solution for the market that would also offer an eco-friendly option to paint-based solutions, whilst also benefiting from lower speed loss, reduced greenhouse gases, self-cleaning properties and extended durability.

Avery Dennison will market the product under the Mactac name, called MacGlide. PPG will market it as PPG SIGMAGLIDE FOIL to the commercial marine sector, targeting smaller vessels that suit the foil’s manual application.

Since August 2016, the European business of Mactac has been a part of Avery Dennison. PPG develops paints, coatings and materials for customers in over 70 countries.
