Robert Wales says that the positioning of signs is extremely important, and uses SAi Flexi software to produce vehicle graphics

All-Star Signs in Georgia, USA, has worked with SAi Flexi for 15 years, which has streamlined his production – particularly when working on projects such as vehicle wrapping which requires a software for design and cutting.

Robert Wales, the owner of All-Star Signs first started using SAi Flexi when he invested in a Graphtec Cutter, but has now enhanced his capacity with a 54-inch Roland VersaCAMM VS-540i eco-solvent inkjet printer. Cutting vinyl letters has remained a large part of Wales’ business, and this is where SAi Flexi has provided a number of benefits.

Wales started his career in the sign industry in 1985 when he worked for a screen-printing company. “In 1985, I was working for a screen-printing company and doing some sign work on the side,” explains Wales. “One of the people I was working for offered me a job that would enable to make signs full-time and I’ve been doing it ever since.”

Signs have a job to do, that means the signs have to be suited to where they are displayed

Installing Flexi has led to a number of opportunities for Wales, from traditional signage through to vehicle graphics. However, he says that the positioning of the sign is the most important aspect.

He continues: “Signs have a job to do, that means the signs have to be suited to where they are displayed. For example, the sign on a building is meant to be viewed from a minimum of ten feet away; sometimes from across the street, or even further. The message has to be clear.

“Vehicle graphics are the same. I’ve told a lot of customers that they would be better off with one sign on the rear of their vehicles than with signs on each door. With luck, they’ll buy three, but the point is that when you’re stuck in traffic, you read signs in front of you not on the doors.”
