Making large-format installations easier

By implementing a new project management programme, full-service print provider Wahooti has improved the installation process.

Wahooti managed this installation with the Vism solution

Vism was designed specifically for the signage, graphics and installation industries to make projects easier to manage.

For graphics and large-format print companies, the programme, accessed either through a desktop computer or via the smartphone app, allows the project manager to contact freelancers in the network, send real-time job updates, photos and sign-off.

For signage companies, Vism allows briefs to be created for last-minute jobs quickly, provide real-time job updates and centralised document storage which means work can be allocated remotely, wherever the installers may be.

Wahooti has grown to become a £3m-turnover business in four years, employing ten people at its site in London. The company specialises in providing complete end-to-end solutions for other businesses, particularly in the construction and advertising industries, from business cards to large-format advertising campaigns.

Another hoarding installation where the firm used project management software

Ex-print buyer Nick Manuel started Wahooti with his father Julian, who worked for a large-format printing company, when they realised, they wanted to offer a full printing service for companies.

Manuel comments: “Most large format projects require a specialist fitter to carry out the installation. Whether we are doing this ourselves or using external suppliers, accurate and timely communication is extremely important.

"For a while, we were doing this using Google calendar, WhatsApp and information briefing sheets produced in [Microsoft] Word.

“This was extremely limited in terms of sharing information with multiple installers to see who was most suitable and available for the job and also gave us a real headache when it came to knowing that the customer had signed-off the project and if they were happy.”

This simple improvement to our operations has saved us at least two days per month, which has a hugely positive impact on our bottom line profitability

After reading about Vism online, Manuel requested a demo and showed it to the team at Wahooti. “The biggest selling point to us was that Vism allows us to hold all the information relevant to each of our projects in a central place that could be communicated to multiple installers in one go,” he adds.

Manuel continues: “From there, we can see who is available and select an installer there and then. Previously, this would have taken many emails back and forth and always created the potential to double book or provide misinformation.

"The installer then has all the information they need directly sent to their smartphone, including location and special information.

“We can also fire through any changes and their instructions are updated immediately. This simple improvement to our operations has saved us at least two days per month, which has a hugely positive impact on our bottom line profitability.”
