HP moves to support 3D printing in India
HP will build a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for 3D printing to help small businesses and start-ups in Andhra Pradesh, Southern India.

HP is working to disrupt traditional manufacturing with 3D print
The firm has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government in Andhra Pradesh to build a new additive manufacturing centre in the state.
"We believe HP's cutting-edge 3D printing technology will fuel innovation in manufacturing and help upskill young professionals to make them ready for Industry 4.0 in the state," says Sumeer Chandra, managing director, HP Inc India.
HP India will act as the key knowledge provider for the initiative and will equip the centre with 3D printers that can handle short-run production and functional prototyping. The pact has been unofficially agreed between HP India and the Andhra Pradesh Innovation Society and the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB).
"Manufacturing in Andhra Pradesh has great potential as a lot of demand is slated to come from domestic consumption. Andhra Pradesh's impetus in automotive, electronics and aerospace makes technologies like 3D printing market-ready," says J. Krishna Kishore, chief executive officer of APEDB.

The aim of the new centre is to give small- and medium-sized businesses and start-ups in the area a chance to get to grips with the possibilities of additive manufacturing. HP introduced its Multi Jet Fusion 3D printer to the Indian market earlier this year, which it says is capable of producing parts up to ten times faster and at half the cost of current 3D printing solutions.
Chandra adds: “We believe that digital transformation of manufacturing will be a key enabler of the next industrial revolution. 3D Printing will contribute to democratising manufacturing and transforming industries, including the $6 trillion Asia-Pacific and Japan manufacturing segment.
“India is a strategic hub for this significant shift and we are excited to bring the cutting-edge Multi Jet Fusion technology to Indian customers across a variety of vertical markets.”
George Brasher, managing director of HP in the UK, says that the company is focusing on three areas to ensure its 3D printers disrupt the manufacturing sector: cost, quality and speed.
