Agfa takes it to the competition

In a move that will no doubt cause its competitors in the world of wide-format inkjet to sit up and take notice, Agfa Graphics has launched the Anapurna H1650i LED.

The Anapurna H1650i LED gives Agfa a new strategic frontier upon which they can campaign for new market share

Revealed for the first time at C!Print 2018, it is billed as an ‘accessible and cost-effective’ hybrid printer that “combines the latest LED technology with Agfa Graphics’ signature high-quality output”.

“The hybrid Anapurna H1650i LED printer was designed as a robust, qualitative and versatile entry-level option for wide-format print-service-providers,” explains Philip Van der Auwera, product manager at Agfa Graphics.

He adds: “Although smaller, it is equipped with features normally reserved for higher-end printers, such as automatic head height measurement, crash prevention, and an anti-static bar—thus offering the very best at a reasonable price. Of course, the Anapurna H1650i LED is driven by Asanti as well, which adds to the resulting high-quality and consistent prints.”

The latest addition to the Anapurna LED series is a smaller version of the H2050i. Like its bigger brother, the H1650i LED boasts Agfa’s much lauded ink-saving Thin Ink Layer technology and white ink printing reliability. Another key facet it shares in common with its product family is a reinforced belt drive and shuttle beam, gradient and multi-layer ink functionality, and six 12-picoliter printheads.

The new technology seems set to be a ‘market disruptor’ as it brings Agfa into contention at a price and productivity ratio that has been the preserve of key competitors such as Mimaki, EFI, and Inktec.
