Lorna Brindley: more women needed in sign industry
The signage, graphics and wide-format industries are regrettably still largely male dominated places of employment. But things are changing as Lorna Brindley of ArtSystems in Nottingham is proving by taking on a challenging role within the signage company.

ArtSystems’ Lorna Brindley was nominated twice at the CRN Women in the Channel 2018 Awards
To mark her career with the company as technical service manager and leader in service delivery, she has been nominated by her employers in two categories in the CRN Women in the Channel 2018 Awards.
Brindley comments: “I’m honoured and slightly embarrassed about being nominated. It’s a challenging role at ArtSystems, but a really rewarding one. Working with amazing teams makes the stress all worthwhile. It’s still a male dominated industry but more women are starting to take up careers in this fast-moving sector – and I’d recommend all women to consider a career in the signage, graphics and information industries. There’s never a dull moment!”
Launched in April this year, the awards are hoped to help address the gender imbalances that handicap some companies by highlighting the excellence of women working in the Channel. Lorna has been nominated for both Woman of the Year and Role Model of the Year.
Steve Hawker, ArtSystems’ managing director, agrees with the judges’ choice: “Lorna leads the service team brilliantly, delivering excellent service and outstanding customer satisfaction. Managing the largest team in ArtSystems can be a challenging remit – her team must deliver excellence under pressure and keep customers printing! A lot of men would buckle under the pressure.

Established in 1986 and now part of Westcoast Holdings group, ArtSystems, the Nottingham-based specialist systems distributor and service provider, has seen significant growth in the past six years. Today, ArtSystems has a turnover more than £30m, and employs over 60 people.
The CRN Award winners will be announced on 18th October 2018 during a ceremony at the Hilton Bankside London.
