Signs Express owner, Chris Reilly swaps signs for sailing to raise money for St. Luke’s Hospice
Signs Express owner, Chris Reilly, decided to take a short break from signage, and use his passion for sailing to raise money for St. Luke’s Hospice.
The charity provides care at home for those who are nearing the end of their lives. They also provide this care at Derriford Hospital and at their specialist unit in Turnchapel.
Reilly says: “Whenever we get the chance, we support St. Luke’s Hospice, who do really amazing work in the local community.
On Saturday June 17th, 68 yachts took to the water to sail over 26 miles in order to raise money for their chosen charities, founded in the local area.
This pursuit was the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for sailing with our fundraising efforts. A little can go a long way”
The event, since its inaugural pursuit in 2002, has raised almost half a million pounds in total for causes that are based in the South-West.
Each chosen charity must benefit people and their health, which is specifically outlined by the event organisers.
In 2014 alone, the pursuit raised £69,400 for 33 different charities in the area. It is now the third largest charity fundraising event in the South-West.
Not only does each individual sailor raise money for their chosen cause, but any prize money is also donated to charities. These are chosen by the vent’s treasurer.
Reilly continues: “This pursuit was the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for sailing with our fundraising efforts. A little can go a long way.”
