Pedalling For the Love of Lilly

In an effort to raise money for two very worthy charities, David Allen and David Walker of Allen Signs will be tackling a gruelling bike ride between London and Paris that has to be completed in just 24 hours.

"Now in its third year, The Alfie Fisher Man Challenge is made up of volunteers who put themselves through physical challenges to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, as well as a different local cause each year,” explains Allen, managing director of Allen Signs—which is celebrating its 50th year in business.

He adds: “The locally nominated cause for 2016 is For the Love of Lilly, which has been set-up to help fund advanced eye-operated communication equipment for a young girl with cerebral palsy.”

Lilly, who is now five, was less than a year old when she was diagnosed with the condition, and although she cannot speak she has the cognitive abilities of a five-year-old. Her inability to express herself is extremely frustrating for her.

All monies raised from the challenge will be split evenly between the two charities, and will go some way to providing Lilly with her own voice and independence.

“This will be my third year raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. I’m Alfie’s godfather, so the Alfie Fisher Man Challenge is something that is very close to my heart,” says Walker, who adds: “The money we raise will help to improve Lilly’s lifestyle and those who are affected by cystic fibrosis—both of which are great reasons to get involved.”

Allen continues: “Although I am only cycling part of the journey, the challenge will be a physical test; David will be riding the whole 190 miles which will be really tough. However, we are ready for the challenge. We’re a family-run business and our whole team is passionate about supporting worthwhile causes.

“To mark the completion of the 190-mile ride and the 50th anniversary of Allen Signs, we will be hosting a celebratory event in June and we look forward to announcing more details very soon.”
