Monster efforts cracks £20k for cancer charity

After a gruelling 800 mile cycle-challenge which touched seven coastlines, the twelve-strong Coast2Coast team led by sign industry personality Tim Andrews has helped to raise more than £20,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) and The Stephen Staunton Foundation.

The Coast2Coast team have so far raised £8,300 for the Teenage Cancer Trust and the Stephen Staunton Foundation

Part of an overall effort to raise £50,000 to improve access to treatment and care for young cancer patients in the region, the cause was founded following the efforts of Stephen Sutton who raised more than £3m for the TCT before he passed away in May aged just 19.

It really was the most difficult challenge I have ever undertaken, climbing a total of 47,000 feet, but the team spirit was huge and that helped us all when it hurt to be in the saddle and was agony to turn the pedals

“It really was the most difficult challenge I have ever undertaken, climbing a total of 47,000 feet, but the team spirit was huge and that helped us all when it hurt to be in the saddle and was agony to turn the pedals,” says Andrews.

He continues: “It’s a privilege to get involved with raising money for these fantastic charities and it was also the ideal time to honour the memory of Stephen Sutton, whose fundraising efforts for the Teenage Cancer Trust has been such an inspiration to many."

Hollywood Monster’s managing director Tim
Andrews has participated in and organised a
number of charity fund raising initiatives. Coas
2Coast saw him cycle some 800 miles, touch
seven coastlines, and raise £8,000 and counting

The efforts of the Birgham-based sign-maker and boss of Hollywood  Monster were lauded by organisers.

“Without the help of people like Tim, we wouldn’t have been able to organise Coast2Coast. Their support will give us a fantastic chance to reach our target of £50,000 and it also means I didn't have to cycle all 808 miles on my own,” says Mike Hopkins, the principal of South and City College Birmingham who came up with concept for Coast2Coast.

Launched by the college, Coast2Coast continues the legacy for 7inSeven, which Andrews helped set up in 2013. This initiative saw riders cycle through seven countries across Europe in seven days for HelpHarryHelpOthers.

Among the other participants on the ride were former Aston Villa player Steve Staunton, as well as staff and students from South and City College. A support team also accompanied the riders, which including media students from the college who documented the challenge.
