“A member of our staff was diagnosed with Diabetes around five years ago, and it affected his quality of life. His younger brother was found to be a perfect match. He had the transplant and thankfully it was a great success,” says director Jamie Bowden.
The firm first held a raffle around that time, but since then Bowden's own father and a member of staff who has since left were also diagnosed, further increasing the firm's determination to raise funds.
The raffle was for a host of prize's including tickets to games at both the city's football clubs Aston Villa and Birmingham City.
Bowden continues: “We had some signed shirts, and other bits and bobs that we threw into the pot. I e-mailed around to see if people were interested in donating something, and we ended up with 14 prizes.
“If I'm honest it was very hard work, you don't realise how much time and effort it will take but everybody got involved and it was all worth it in the end. Some of our customers ended up donating £100 each.”
Diabetes UK works to promote awareness of a disease that is increasingly common among the UK population.
