New Mimaki UCJV to be unveiled at Print Show

Mimaki have announced the release of new print technology that is set to take the market by storm. The UCJV300-160 and UCJV150-160 will be available in the last few months of 2017, and will also make its UK and Ireland debut at the Print Show 2017 (co-located with Signlink Live).

The more environmentally-friendly ink is cured instantly even at high-speeds, often eliminating the need for additional finishing, like laminating

A range of new features will be available, but the most important technology is the ink. Instead of working with solvent ink, which requires drying time and a period to let off the gasses created, Mimaki have released a more environmentally-friendly ink that also dries faster. Prints are instantly cured, even when printed at high speeds. The new LUS-170 still guarantees vibrant colour despite not using more traditional technology like solvent and latex inks.

Ronald Van den Broek, general manager sales at Mimaki Europe, comments: “The UCJV Series is available in two models; the four colour UCJV150-160 and the UCJV300-160 that can accommodate up to seven ink colours in cost effective one litre bottles.

“Each can produce a wide variety of print and cut applications offered by many signage, commercial and packaging a wide variety of providers. LED UV curing technology enables PSPs to utilise an expanded range of materials including uncoated print media and many thin film substrates that may be too heat sensitive for latex or solvent high heat fixation systems.”

Available on the UCJV300-160, the Mimaki allows sign-makers to create layered signage, as well as creating graphics perfect for backlit applications. As well as greener inks, there is the addition of white ink that allows printers and designers to create semi-opaque films. Reduced waste, and the ability to see graphics from both sides are benefits of white ink. Mimaki’s Advanced Pass System aims to reduce visible branding, and Variable Dot Printing uses smaller drops to produce smoother gradations and bigger drops create uniform solids. The Waveform technology makes sure the correct ink drop is used.

This new printer/cutter really does define the future for sign and graphics production; the application opportunities are endless and creative professionals will reap enormous benefit

Cutting is also reportedly faster and easier, as a sensor scans a barcode, which automatically programmes the printer to begin its cutting process. This is down to new software, Mimaki Raster Link 6 plus RIP. The cutter continuously reads jobs from both single and combined jobs. Mimaki Circulation Technology keeps the white inks from settling, and the Nozzle Check Unit maintains optimum print quality.

National sales manager, John de la Roche adds: “This process gives print companies the opportunity to offer a unique product. It’s possible to produce a dynamic graphic that morphs its image or colour scheme depending on the light source – a distinctive capability that enables print companies to produce high impact, high margin output while maintaining low operational costs and reduced production time. This new printer/cutter really does define the future for sign and graphics production; the application opportunities are endless and creative professionals will reap enormous benefit.”

More complex cutting strategies are also available to the printer, who can now use a ‘half-cut’ where a small connecting piece is left between two sheets, allowing for even less waste. The printer/cutter is perfect for a series of products, including labels, graphics, packaging and vehicle markings.

The UCJV will be showcased by Hybrid at the Print Show and Signlink Live at the Telford International Centre in October. The event, which takes place 11th – 12th, will provide the stage for the printer’s debut.
