Amscreen has worked with the likes of Clear Channel to help digital implementation through Europe

Amscreen has previously commented on the evolution of street furniture such as traditional telephone boxes. The new year has led to the company re-evaluating the purpose and use of screens and signs in city spaces.

The management solutions provider has emphasised air and noise quality sensors, traffic monitors, as well as eco-friendly and safety monitoring technology as new innovations helping digital out-of-home (DOOH) companies.

Smart kiosks are new alternatives to phone boxes which can provide useful features such as internet coverage, defibrillator pods, and charging stations.

Amscreen’s website states: “There are thousands of phone booths throughout Europe that are currently unused, run-down or outdated that could provide valuable benefits to local communities by undergoing an Amscreen transformation.”

The instantly recognisable red telephone boxes were voted the greatest British design of all time back in 2015. The ‘kiosks’ as they were officially called were placed in every town or village with a Post Office as part of the celebrations for King George V’s silver jubilee in 1935.

The old kiosks are an example of the progress we have now made in regard to street furniture and signage in the last 20 years.

Amscreen’s website also points to the ways old phone boxes have changed and been repurposed into the likes of mini-libraries, art galleries, and coffee kiosks.

The outdoor screen supplier has compared its own kiosks as the modern evolution of the classic red phone box. The kiosks can be fitted with charging points, sanitiser dispensers, and contactless payment points all alongside a 75” screen.
