The nationally run ‘For the Love of Scrubs’ campaign is in full swing, with volunteers sewing and producing scrubs for local hospitals and organisations that are in desperate need. Emma Dalzell set up the ‘Mid Cheshire Hospitals – Leighton/Northwich’ response, creating scrubs for these hospitals. A member of the team from Hybrid Services, which is based close to Crewe’s Leighton Hospital, saw the appeal on Facebook asking for help to produce patterns to make the scrubs, and jumped at the chance to help.

Using the latest 1.6m Mimaki UCJV300-160, Hybrid volunteers produced patterns that were ready for distribution across the country. Brett Newman, chief operations manager for the Mimaki distributor, comments: “One of the team spotted a Facebook post appealing for help with producing the patterns. As soon as we realised we could help, a number of the Hybrid staff volunteered to assist, returning to our office to produce the plans A0 size to help the group with this challenge.”

Since Dalzell set up the local group in early April, there are now over 1,000 members that are sewing and producing scrubs for local hospitals. “Having joined the national Facebook group, I thought I’d make a couple of pairs and that would be it, but in conversation with a contact at Crewe’s Leighton Hospital, I found there was a desperate need for scrubs in our area which motivated me to start the local group.”

The group is also fundraising and so far has raised over £7,000 for Mid Cheshire Hospitals, and has now delivered over 400 pairs of scrubs to NHS and healthcare workers.

Elsewhere and using a Mimaki CJV150-130 printer/cutter, Stickerdrops has created stickers incorporating the adapted Superman NHS logo. Dave Fowler, owner of the company, saw that hospital staff were funding their own additional PPE (personal protective equipment) items, and decided to create the matte vinyl easy-peel decals to raise money to help with this.

Fowler explains: “We were saddened to hear that, upon the adoption of full PPE, staff on the hospital’s maternity ward were unable to use their existing lanyards to hold their pass cards. They personally sourced retractable belt clip reels and we assisted them by supplying a small printed and cut branding sticker, but it got us thinking about how we could help them out a bit more.” 

Stickerdrops, and its sister business Cocoa Media, invested in the print and cut technology from Mimaki reseller partner printMAX a few years ago.
